Goil has reduced fuel price by 15 Pesewas.

This was after the Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare spoke to Goil and other filling stations to reduce their fuel price in response to the demands of the commercial drivers.

Initially, Goil sold a litre of fuel at about GHC6.85 but is now selling at GHC 6.70.

The Coalition of Commercial Transport Operators in Ghana including the Ghana Private Road and Transport Union (GPRTU) embarked on a sit down Strike on Monday, December 6, 2021.

This was to get the government scrap all the taxes on the pump price of petroleum products to ease the burden on Ghanaians.

It was observed that while many drivers parked their vehicles, few ones did not adhere to the instruction of the striking unions, and were seen picking passengers to and fro.

This got some of the drivers who went on strike to confront those who did otherwise.

While embarking on the strike, the Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare appealed to drivers to suspend their strike.

Speaking on Atinka TV‘s morning show, Ghana Nie, General Secretary of Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), Mr Godfred Abulbire said the fuel reduction will not affect Goil in any way.

He said Goil kept the initial price and were making outrageous profits, saying they will still make profits after reduction of the fuel.

“They are not losing anything now, they were making unnecessary profits,” he said.

Although they wanted the price to go down to about GHC6.50, he said they had accepted the 15 pesewas with the hope that in the near future, government will do something more about the reduction of the fuel price.
