The Council Chairman of Takoradi Technical University, (TTU) Dr. Samuel Amo Tobbin, has called on the university community, especially management to support the new council to work to leave a good legacy within its three-year mandate.

Speaking during his maiden meeting with management and tour of the three campuses of TTU since his inauguration, Dr. Tobbin commended management for a good work done over the years. He therefore expressed the need for support to council to do more.

“What I can say is that you have all done so well for bringing the university to this level. It means that I have a lot of people who know so much about the university to support me. My plea to all of you is to give all your support to build this university.

“There is time for everyone to serve at a particular point in time until the time comes for you to move on. However, one has to serve diligently while in that capacity to benefit humanity and for Ghana as well as generations to come after you. Most of us may not have come from the Western Region, but let’s build this Western Region’s technical university so that we can leave a good legacy and we have only three years to perform”, he said.

Dr. Tobbin however advised management and council members not to take offense with his leadership style which is just aimed at ensuring high results.

“Forgive me if you find me pulling you or putting pressure on you because that is my style of getting results and I will be visiting unannounced. I must emphasize that I’m a purely businessman and the ideas to drive this place (TTU), God has given us the grace but we will need your support“, he added.

The Vice Chancellor of TTTU, Rev. Prof. John Frank Eshun, while officially welcoming the new Council Chairman to tour the university gave an overview of the university’s vision and how it is refreshing to have Dr. Tobbin to help steer that vision.

“We have almost about 16,000 students here and we have five faculties and a school. TTU is the leading Technical University in Ghana and has the potential to grow much further. I am very happy that you’re here to visit and also take a look at some of the ongoing projects that will see us move into another level of development. We have a vision to become a World-class Technical University recognized for excellence, innovation and societal relevance and I believe we want to work together in moving the university to another level“, he said.

A Council Member, Dr. Ato Panford, also adding his voice in welcoming the Council Chair called for the new council members to work together under the dispensation of Dr. Tobbin.

“the council is a fine mix of the old and new but the most important thing is that we need to know that within every period there is a target set before us to achieve. Some of us want to make sure that we see the best come out from this university under this new dispensation”, he noted.

Professor Victor Kweku Bondzie Micah, who is the Pro Vice Chancellor of TTU gave the new Council Chair a pictorial presentation on the three campuses of TTU which was followed by a tour of the three campuses.

At the main campus, Dr. Tobbin toured the 4-storey lecture theatre and administration Odro block complex as well as the new extensions. He had a drive-through the University Health Centre and then to the ongoing Vice Chancellor’s residence project where he inspected the level of construction and also enquired about the expenses left before completion.

The Council Chairman also visited the BU Campus where he toured the Faculty of Business block, construction of a 4-storey lecture block and the GETFund Hall.

In rounding up his tour of the Aketekyi campus, Dr. Samuel Amo Tobbin, called for immediate steps to fully operationalize that campus and reiterated the need for support to the council’s work.

“What we will need from you is to support the new council for us to drive this place. We must make good use of every facility that we have and looking at here (Aketekyi), we need to operationalize all equipment. It is obvious that some of the facials of the facilities here are open and immediately we have to work on it and put it to use“, he added

The Council Chairman who was also welcomed by some of the opinion leaders and people of Aketekyi during his tour of the campus assured them that his council will work with management of TTU to make the Aketekyi campus a success.
