The Finance Minister, Mr. Ken Ofori Atta, has denied allegations that he has been reckless with the management of the fiscal operations of the government.
This comes after he was accused of fiscal recklessness by the Members of Parliament who called for his resignation.
Appearing before the Adhoc Committee of Parliament to hear the censure motion brought against him today, Friday, November 18, 2022, he said, “Rather, the government has protected the public purse, and this has helped the government to achieve a lot.”
“There is also a claim on fiscal reckless, leading to the crush of the Ghana Cedi which is currently the worst performing currency in the world
The grounds of recklessness presupposes that I have not been guided by the laid done regulations, I want to state that I have not been reckless in the management of fiscal operations of government,” he said.
He continued, “Rather, our strenuous efforts to protect the public purse are what have helped this government to have achieved much, much more than any government ever over a similar period in virtually all sectors, including education, health, social welfare, policing, security in general, roads, railways, agriculture, industrialization, tourism, digitization, and funding for anti-corruption institutions.”
