Some private schools will collapse after September 5

0

Spokesperson for the Ghana National Council of Private Schools (GNACOPS), Kyei Baffour, has revealed that some private schools will collapse after Saturday 5th September 2020.

That, he said, is as a result of the lack of students in these private schools.

This comes after the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo speaking during the 16th Covid-19 update address noted that the Ghana Education Service, after further consultations, has decided to postpone the remainder of the academic year for all nursery, kindergarten, primary, JHS 1 and SHS 1 students.

He added that the next academic year will resume in January 2021, with appropriate adjustments made to the curriculum, to ensure that nothing is lost from the previous year.

“The relevant dispositions will also be made so that the presence, at the same time, in school of all streams of students, can occur in safety”, the Akufo-Addo said.

Prior to the postponement of the remainder of the academic year for students for all nursery, kindergarten, primary, JHS 1 and SHS 1 students, some private schools only had students in the 3rd year who reopened to prepare for their final exams.

Speaking on Atinka FM’s AM Drive with host Ekourba Gyasi, Spokesperson for Ghana National Council of Private Schools (GNACOPS), Kyei Baffour stated that even if government allows private schools to re-open for second years, some private schools cannot re-open since they do not have students.

“The last batch for most of these private schools are in the 3rd year and are completing on Saturday 5th September 2020. After Saturday, some of these private schools will collapse and I repeat some of these private schools will collapse after Saturday 5th September 2020”, he noted.

Man Utd in £53m transfer talks over winger with Jadon Sancho proving elusive

Manchester United 'in love' with Jadon Sancho, claims reliable journalist

Manchester United are in talks with Juventus over a deal for Douglas Costa but the winger’s £53million price tag could be a stumbling block, according to reports.
The Brazil international is being eyed as an alternative to Jadon Sancho.
While Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to sign the Borussia Dortmund star, striking a deal has been tricky so far. Manchester United have spent most of their transfer window chasing Sancho, only to find Borussia Dortmund stubborn negotiators.
The Bundesliga giants will only let the England international go if their £108million asking price is met – a fee the Red Devils are unwilling to pay because of the coronavirus crisis.
As a result, United have been linked with alternatives.
Bayern Munich star Kingsley Coman has been tipped to move to Old Trafford but, in the wake of their 1-0 Champions League final win over PSG, a move away from the Allianz Arena is unlikely.
And Barcelona duo Ansu Fati and Ousmane Dembele, as well as Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish, have all been linked as well.

Saudi king sacks defence officials

0

A number of Saudi officials, including two members of the royal family, have been sacked.

A royal decree said Saudi King Salman had relieved Prince Fahad bin Turki of his role as commander of joint forces in the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen.

His son, Abdulaziz bin Fahad, was also removed as a deputy governor.

The men, along with four other officials, face an investigation into “suspicious financial dealings” at the Ministry of Defence, the decree said.

Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who is the king’s son and is considered Saudi Arabia’s de-facto ruler, has spearheaded a campaign against alleged corruption in the government.
However, critics say the high-profile arrests have been aimed at removing obstacles to the prince’s hold on power.

How Saudi Arabia’s crown prince rose to power
Saudi royal arrests: Why top princes have been silenced

Earlier this year, the Wall Street Journal reported that three senior royals had been arrested, including the king’s younger brother Prince Ahmed bin Abdulaziz and former crown prince Mohammed bin Nayef.

The most high-profile incident, in 2017, saw dozens of Saudi royal figures, ministers and businessmen detained at the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Riyadh.

Most of them were later released, but only after reaching settlements worth a total of $106.7bn (£75.6bn) with the Saudi state.
Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, 35, won international praise when he promised a series of economic and social reforms to the deeply-conservative country after coming to power in 2016.

However he has been embroiled in a series of scandals, including the murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi at the Saudi embassy in Istanbul in 2018 and an alleged murder plot against a former Saudi intelligence agent in Canada.

He has also been criticised over the continuing conflict in Yemen, where Saudi Arabia backs pro-government forces, and the harsh treatment of women’s rights activists. despite the lifting of some restrictions including the right to drive.

Akufo- Addo lays foundation stone for ultra-modern foundry

-President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Monday laid the foundation stone for Ghana’s first ultra-modern foundry and machine tooling Centre at Kwabenya, near Accra.
The facility, in line with Government’s agenda to use science technology and innovation as a pivotal element in the country’s growth and development, would enable cutting-edge research in foundry technology to provide new materials and processes to make Ghanaian industries more competitive.

It would produce metal cast, especially from aluminium, essential to industries such as agriculture, transportation, construction, automobile, municipal and water infrastructure and railroad among others for the local and international market.

At a short ceremony at the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission (GAEC) where the facility would be built, the President said the establishment of the Centre was a key component of a much broader strategic framework designed to ensure that Ghana’s socio-economic development was driven by Science, Technology and Innovation (STI).

He noted that developing the country’s capacity to design and build basic tools and equipment was essential to the government’s industrialisation drive for a Ghana Beyond Aid.

President Akufo-Addo said Ghana’s economy, like many African countries, had generally remained structurally rigid, depending largely on exports of primary commodities such as gold, cocoa, bauxite and timber.

He said Ghana imported almost all of the equipment, machinery, and parts that support industry, especially in the manufacturing sector.

“This has not allowed the manufacturing base of our country to grow and expand, and has, thus, rendered our economy incapable of creating the thousands and thousands of jobs that our young people yearn for, and that will raise their living standards,” he said.

The President said the setting up of the facility fed into government’s strategy
to pursue value addition of the country’s resources, through an accelerated industrialisation strategy that exploited the resources of our nation.

He said with Ghana replete with natural and human resources, it was in the position to become a business and industrial hub, producing and exporting manufactured goods and modern services to the rest of Africa, Europe, the Americas, Asia and beyond.

“This is the basis and the foundation for our National Strategy for Industrialisation, and the foundation stone we are laying today is a cornerstone of this industrialisation strategy,” he said.

The facility is expected to be completed in 9 months.

Our manifesto hit NDC so hard-NPP

0

The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) claims the launch of its manifesto hit its main opponent, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) so hard that, it had no option than to postpone the launch of its (NDC) manifesto.

Addressing the media on Monday, the party’s Director of Commuivation, Yaw Buaben Asamoa, said the NDC’s flagbearer, John Mahama lacks vision hence the frequent postponements of the launch of his party’s manifesto, which was  submitted to him, as far back as July 1,2020.

“On July 1st 2020, the whole world was told that candidate Mahama has received the people’s manifesto and he said he was going to launch in August but when the NPP announced August 22 to launch its manifesto, the whole world was told theirs will follow on the August 29 and then came the bomb. Our manifesto hit them so hard making them postpone to 31st August and as we speak we are not sure it will come on as announced again on the 7th September,” the party said.

“Months before COVID-19 hit the world, John Mahama’s NDC set up a manifesto committee on a perilous journey to go and find out what Ghanaians want. After 16 years of NDC in the 28-year-old fourth Republic which he [Mahama] has ruled in 6 years of those years and the final decision maker in Ghana, he is still struggling to find out what Ghanaians governance priorities are,” it added.
