Botswana allows wives to own land

0

Botswana wives can for the first time own land alongside their husbands, President Mokgweetsi Masisi has said.

Until now, the country’s land policy stopped wives from owning land if their husbands already had some.

Only unmarried women or the wives of men who did not already own land were eligible.

The discrimination left millions of women without access to the land where they live and work.

The president tweeted the amended law that reads: “Each Motswana will be eligible for allocation of one residential plot at an area of their choice within the country, on both state land and tribal land.”

He said the new policy will also protect widows and orphans who head households and are in need of land for residential purposes.

Rights groups have welcomed the change saying it was long overdue.

General Secretary for the National Peace Council (NPC), George Amoh, says the council will follow the progress of the Roadmap laid down to fight vigilantism until the menace is kicked out of Ghanaian politics.

George Amoh noted that the 10-member committee will ensure that the code of conduct for political parties are adhered to and deter others from disobeying the roadmap.

The National Peace Council (NPC) in August inaugurated a 10-member National Monitoring Committee for the implementation of the Code of Conduct and Road-map on political vigilantism in Ghana.

Some Members of the 10-member Committee include; Mr Vincent Azumah, West Africa Network for Peace building, Dr Imurana Mohammed, National Commission for Civic Education, and Sheikh Aramiyaw Shaibu, Spokesperson of the National Chief Imam.

The two main political parties, the NDC and NPP signed the final Roadmap and Code of Conduct designed to end political vigilantism in the country.

Speaking on Atinka FM’s AM Drive with host Ekourba Gyasi, the General Secretary of the Ghana National Peace Council, George Amoh said the committee will work as a team and ensure the political vigilantism becomes a thing of the past.

“There are over 27 vigilante groups in the country and we will closely monitor the political parties and ensure that they strictly adhere to the code of conduct they signed. The essence is to measure performance and adherence to the code one after the other. For instance, the Peace Council has asked the political parties to distance itself from vigilante groups. We will make sure the parties are doing just that and inform the appropriate quarters or otherwise”, he added.

He called on political parties and the security agencies to build trust among and across the institutions to ensure a peaceful election.

What To Talk About With a Guy on a First Date?

0

We know what first dates can be like: they can be awkward, scary and sometimes you just wanna run to the hills like hell!

But sometimes – sometimes – you really want a first date to work out. Like, REALLY. He’s hot and you don’t want to blow your big chance to impress him.

Problem is that you’ve been here before. You’ve lost your track and ran out of things to say. Periods of awkward silences ensue, and they force you to blab the first things that come to your mind (usually very bad jokes or crude observations that don’t impress him!).

After the date is over, he doesn’t text you. If only you knew what to talk about on a first date!

Knowing what to talk about on a first date isn’t just useful for securing a second date, however. It also helps you learn more about him so that you can decide if a second date is even worth your time.

Beauty and Tips have the answers to the first date convo conundrum. Let’s take a look at the best tips…

Things to talk about with a guy on a first date:

Your Occupations

Talking about work isn’t something we always want to do, and while it seems like a bit of a mundane subject, it works well on a first date.

Why? A few reasons.

Talking about your jobs gives you a chance to talk about your hopes and dreams and what you really want to do for a career. It gives you both a chance to learn more about each others place of work and what your work/life balance is like. This is important to know – if, for example, he’s a workaholic and you’re not, it’s already clear that this probably isn’t going to work.

Talking about work also means there’ll be plenty of amusing anecdotes for you to both share, and you can also talk about the positive experiences you’ve had at work, as well as the disastrous bosses you’ve worked for!

Life Goals

This one can seem like heavy subject matter and you definitely don’t want to plunge straight into it. But if you’ve spent some time properly connecting during the date, there’s no harm in talking about life goals.

Life goals are especially important to discuss to determine if he’s someone you want to spend a good amount of time with. If his life goals are totally different to yours, there’s no point wasting any more time getting to know him.

That’s why it’s a good idea to broach the subject during the first date. It also makes for a really interesting conversation.

Hobbies and Passions

“What do you like to do in your free time?” is a classic first date question. If you literally never ask it, you’re missing a trick.

Everyone has spare time and it’s often what a person does in their spare time that should show us how compatible they are with us.

Talk About Books

If you want to connect with a guy on a deeper level, the best thing to do is to get him talking about books.

More to the point, get him talking about his favourite books.

The books he likes to read will give you an insight into what his intellectual pursuits are – or, indeed, if he even has any intellectual pursuits at all.

Moreover, talking about books can also inspire discussions on the things you both like to read about, and it might turn out that you share similar ideas and theories about philosophy, fiction and so on.

Talk About Values

Talking about values can seem like heavy stuff on a first date. But as mentioned, you don’t want to waste your time on a second date with a guy who isn’t even worth your time.

As such, it’s a good idea to our find as much as you can about the guy on the first date. And learning what his values are will give you a clearer idea as to how compatible you two really are.

If he shares your values, great. On the other hand, if his values are at odds with yours, you might need to call it a day at the end of the first date. When our values don’t match up, there’s no potential for a long term relationship.

Talk About Friends

If you feel comfortable with the guy on the first date, you can start to talk about both your friends.

A lot of us are defined by the company keep, so learning more about who he spends a lot of his time with will give you a better understanding into what he’s like as a person.

You could also find out how much time he spends with his friends – does he hang with his bros every single weekend or will he find time for you?

Talk about your friends too – friends are an interesting subject matter and there’s always a funny story to tell!

Talk About Their Idea of Fun

Everyone has a different idea of fun. Some people like to read for kicks, some like to let their hair down in bars and nightclubs and others like to jump out of planes!

Everyone likes to have fun and talking about it is a fun conversation to have. But more than that, it shows you how much fun the two of you will have together. If his idea of fun is to go to the ball game with his bros while you want to go skiing, the two of you might hit it off.

Funny or Bad Dates

Come on, we’ve all had our fair share of bad dates and it’s totally okay to talk about them on a first date – well, as long as this one isn’t one of those bad dates, that is!

Ask him what’s the worst date he’s ever been on – he’ll definitely have a funny story to share!

Share your funny experiences, too. Talking about bad dates is a great way to relieve the tension and it can get you both laughing.

It might also show you both that, in comparison to those bad dates, this date you’re on at the moment isn’t so bad at all!

Premier League calls on government to open stadiums on 1 October

0

Premier League clubs have urged the UK government to stick to its proposal of allowing fans to return to stadiums from 1 October.

The government has restricted pilot events to 1,000 spectators and is reviewing its initial target date of when more fans could attend venues.

The move followed a rise in coronavirus cases in parts of the country.

The Premier League met with clubs on Thursday and ensured stadiums “will be among the safest public places”.

“Clubs will adopt a range of common standards, which will help deliver bio-secure, safe environments for fans across the League,” the Premier League said.

“Taking into account the high safety standards which will be set by the Premier League in conjunction with the relevant public authorities, the League and clubs urge Government to remain committed to the 1 October date for the controlled return of fans to sporting venues.”

The majority of sports in England have been played behind closed doors since the coronavirus lockdown in March.

During Thursday’s meeting, Premier League clubs said the loss of revenue generated at stadiums from matches “is having a significant impact across the League as well as on the football pyramid and local and national economies”.

Premier League chief executive Richard Masters has already said a failure to return fans to stadiums quickly could cost the league’s 20 clubs £700m during the 2020-21 season.

This weekend, seven fixtures in the EFL will welcome crowds of up to 1,000.

Hull City’s home fixture with Crewe was also due to host fans but with local coronavirus cases more than tripling in the past week, the local council stepped in to cancel the pilot event.

Okada Riders can only get 'Nana Addo Taxi' if they vote for us- Enam Hadzide

0

The Deputy Information Minister, Pius Enam Hadzide, has stated that okada riders can only benefit from the transport sector revitalization programme if they vote for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) again on December 7.

This follows the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s promise to legalise ‘okada’ operations if it wins power .

NDC’s promise to legalise okada operations has mounted pressure on the NPP-government . While some NPP members came out to claim that the government was already considering the legalisation of the okada operations, the Vice President, Dr Maha mudu Bawumia has stated that the NPP-government will not legalise the okada operations.

Reacting to the mixed reactions on the legalisation of okada on Atinka TV’s morning show, Ghana Nie, hosted by Nana Owusu Nkrumah, Pius Enam Hadzide stated that instead of legalising okada business, the government will rather provide jobs for the riders.

According to him, when the government inquired the reasons for the business, the riders pointed to unemployment .

“We decided to provide employment for them, and where there are no accessible roads, we create roads for them to stop the okada operations.”

For those who insist they want to work in the transport sector, Pius Enam Hadzide, said government will also support them.

He added that,”The choice for the youth of Ghana is that, you can go for the ‘Nana Addo Taxi’ and pay in bits or you decide to follow John Mahama to sit on okada, where the possibility of death in the case of an accident is 16 times higher. The choice is for the people of Ghana to make.”

When asked when this can materialize, he said,“When we enter into our second term in 2021, the initiative will begin. The government is collaborating with the GPRTU to pilot the initiative. We have captured it in our 2020 manifesto and it means that in 2021 if Ghanaians elect us again, we will implement it.”

He said the NPP-government will continue to implement the law against okada operations until it is changed.

He alleged that Mahama had important a number of motorbikes and tricycles to distribute to people for them to vote for him even though he knows it is still illegal to do the business.

“He acted deliberately to break the law, we will ensure the laws are working. We will help the youth to gain employment instead of the okada business. The youth should not focus on what the NDC is saying about the lagalisation,” he added.

However, the okada riders are still pushing for the legalisation of the okada business despite the back and forth
