Adu Boahen arrested again on new GWCL charge – Atta Akyea

Kwabena Adu-Boahene, the former Director of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), was arrested again on a new charge shortly after being released on bail in the GHS49 million cybersecurity procurement scandal, according to attorney Samuel Atta Akyea.

Atta Akyea told reporters following a hearing in the Accra High Court that the new charge pertains to secure internet services that were given to another state institution.

“I’ve been hinted that it relates to secured Internet services for the benefit of another state institution, the Ghana Water Company, that national security provided them with gadgets and well-meaning things, so that if you’re even in your room, you’ll be able to see the pipes whether they are being tampered with,”he clarified.

The lawyer, who expressed concern about the development, demanded that procedures be followed in a way that doesn’t seem to be a personal grudge and that the accused be allowed to defend himself.

The Accra High Court ordered the prosecution to file all witness statements by May 20, 2025, and this development comes after that order.

Concerning the personal freedoms of the accused, especially Adu-Boahene, the presiding judge, Justice John Eugene Nyadu Nyante, sent the order to the Attorney General’s office.

In order to guarantee a prompt conclusion, Justice Nyante urged the Deputy Attorney General to expedite the trial.
