Agenda 111: Initial schedule of completion was overly ambitious- Akufo Addo

The President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo says the initial schedule he gave for the completion of Agenda 111 was overly ambitious.

According to him, identifying suitable sites for the construction was more problematic than anticipated.

President Akufo-Addo on August 17, 2021, launched the Agenda 111 project.

The project covers the design, procurement, construction, equipping and commissioning of 101 District Hospitals, 6 Regional Hospitals in newly created regions, and 1 Regional Hospital in the Western Region, 2 Psychiatric Hospitals in Kumasi and Tamale a redeveloped Accra Psychiatric Hospital.

The project is to ensure that Ghanaians nationwide have access to quality healthcare services and with the National Health Insurance Scheme, boost the provision of healthcare infrastructure and financial accessibility to healthcare, amongst others.

Speaking in Parliament on the State of the Nation Address on March 30, 2022, President Akufo Addo said a great deal of the propriety work has been completed for 87 out of the 111 sites.

He said he has been assured that the preliminary work of the remaining 28 sites is ongoing.

“We have every intention of seeing this project through a successful end which will enable me to commission all 111 hospitals before I leave office of 7th January 2025,” he said.
