Municipal Chief Executive for the Ahanta West Municipal Assembly, Hon. John Agyari has appealed to non-government organizations, companies, and philanthropists within and outside of the Ahanta West Municipality for relief items for victims of the recent floods in the area.
. According to him, even though the Assembly is collaborating with traditional authorities and the Regional NADMO to provide temporary housing for those affected by the recent flooding in the region, there is insufficient funding to meet their needs.
His appeal comes after some communities within the Ahanta West of the Western Region suffered heavy flooding after a three-day continuous rainfall.

Some of the affected communities include Ewusiejoe,Hotopo, Abura, Jaben Krom, Butre, and Ahuntumano.
Speaking on Atinka FM’s AM Drive with host Kaakiyre Ofori Ayim, Hon. John Agyari said, some affected residents are currently seeking refuge with friends whiles classrooms have been allocated as temporary accommodation for others.
He said he has written letters to all companies within Ahanta West to solicit support relief items adding that some have responded positively to the call. He called on others who are yet to respond to do that immediately.
When asked what could have caused this, Mr. Agyari stated, “For the time being, we are ensuring the safety of the affected victims, and then we will launch an investigation into what caused the massive flooding.”
Some residents of Ewsiejoe, one of the affected communities, who spoke after the incident stated that they were in disbelief because this was their first time witnessing such a tragedy, and that they believe it occurred as a result of galamsey activities in the community.
However, the Assembly Member for the Ewusiejoe Electoral District, who also spoke on Atinka AM Drive, refuted claims that galamsey activity caused the inundation.
According to him, the situation was exacerbated by the River Butre, which overwhelmed its banks and wreaked havoc in Ewusiejoe.
