Akufo Addo declares 7 days of National mourning

The President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has declared seven days of national mourning from Friday 13th November to Friday 20th November following the demise of former President Jerry Rawlings.

Former President of the Republic of Ghana, Jerry John Rawlings, died after battling a short illness.

Jerry John Rawlings died at the Korlebu Teaching Hospital today, Thursday, November 12, 2020 at 73.

Announcing the news of the demise to the general public in a statement, The President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo said the tragic event occurred at the Korle-Bu Teaching hospital, where the former president was receiving treatment after a short illness.

The president has directed that all national national flags to fly at half mast for the next 7days in all parts of the country.

In honour of the late President ,  Akufo Addo has directed all NPP campaigns to be suspended for the period of mourning.

“ Government will work closely with the family of the late president Rawlings on the arrangements for a fitting state funeral for the late President and will keep the nation informed accordingly. A great tree has fallen and Ghana is poorer for this loss”, the statement added.
