In the wake of the devastating fire at Adum PZ, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has engaged senior officers of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) to discuss the incident and outline proactive measures to enhance fire safety and emergency response in the region.
During a meeting with the Fire Service Commander and his senior officers, Dr. Amoakohene expressed his appreciation for their dedication in tackling the blaze, despite the initial challenges they faced. He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the service and strengthening emergency preparedness in Kumasi.

The discussions centered on five critical areas aimed at improving fire safety and response in the region:
1. Formation of a Taskforce and Rapid Response Unit – The Minister proposed a specialized unit comprising the Fire Service, Police, and NADMO to enforce fire safety regulations and ensure accessible vehicular routes within the congested PZ area.
2. Personnel Support through YEA and NSS – Plans are in motion to channel personnel from the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) and National Service Scheme (NSS) into fire safety education, public engagement, and operational support. This initiative is expected to bolster community awareness and preparedness.
3. Logistical Support – Dr. Amoakohene, on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama and Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mubarak, assured the fire service of necessary logistical support to enhance their operations and effectiveness.

“Together, we will strengthen our emergency response systems to better protect our communities,” he assured.
The Adum PZ fire, one of the worst in Kumasi’s recent history, has reignited discussions on fire safety enforcement, market congestion, and the need for improved disaster preparedness. The measures outlined by the Minister signal a renewed effort to prevent such tragedies in the future.
