The Assin North by-election has been slated for Tuesday, June 27, 2023
The Electoral Commission announced the date in a statement issued today. The announcement follows the removal of former Member of Parliament James Gyakye Quayson by a Supreme Court ruling, which indicated that he was a Canadian citizen in 2020 when he contested for the seat.
Parliament of Ghana then declared the Assin North seat vacated on Tuesday, May 30.
“Accordingly, the Commission will receive Nominations from prospective Candidates for the Election of a Member of Parliament for the said Constituency. The Nominations will be received at the Assin North District Office of the Commission from Monday, the 12th of June, 2023 to Wednesday, the 14th of June, 2023 between the hours of 9:00 am – 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm on each day,” the EC said in a statement.
Aspiring candidates are required to pay a filing fee of GH¢10,000 to complete their nomination process.
