data

There will be no extension of the  SIM registration exercise which ended Wednesday, May 31, 2023.

According to the National Communications Authority, it has given enough notice and extension of the SIM registration and will therefore not extend the exercise.

Over 7.0 million SIM cards were expected to be deactivated for failure to register the cards.

The SIM card registration was extended several times by the Ministry of Communications after calls to prolong the exercise to enable subscribers who were yet to receive their Ghana cards to do so.

The telecom firms also complained of logistic constraints after the postponement, citing the cost of the exercise.

There was a massive crowd at the National Identification Authority yesterday, May 31, 2023, as many mobile phone subscribers were seeking to get Ghana cards to enable them to register their SIM cards.

Business Analyst understands that quite a number of subscribers were able to secure their Ghana card, paving the way for them to register their SIM cards.

Leading mobile telecommunication firm, MTN Ghana, assured mobile phone subscribers who may lose their phone numbers for not re-registering their SIM cards that their mobile money (MoMo) accounts would be intact.

It said such subscribers will be later given directives on processes to take to access their money.

Chief Executive Officer, Selorm Adadevoh, stressed that customers, who have money on their deactivated SIM cards will be allowed to retrieve their funds after some time.

The Ministry of Communications has said that subscribers who failed to re-register their SIMs will not be able to make calls, receive calls and text messages.

Therefore, telecom firms are required to block all such lines from accessing any service.
