The Association of Women in Media (ASWIM) is set to embark on a campaign to educate market women on the need to ensure covid-19 safety precautions.
This campaign will be be done in collaboration with the Information Services department.
Speaking at the joint press conference with the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA) and PRINPAG at the Press Center in Accra, President for ASWIM Mavis Kitcher said the move forms part of the association’s quota in helping government’s efforts to stop the spread pf coronavirus in Ghana.
She added that the campaign will dispel the myths and misinformation around coronavirus and explain to citizens the need to obsrve social distance.
“From Thursday ASWIM in collaboration with the information Services Department will embark on a program to educate our market women and some communities Accra to explain to them what covid-19 is all about and why the washing of hands should be a constant process inorder to preotect themselves and the person next to them”, she said.
According to Mavis Kitcher, the media plays a pivotal role in the dissemination of covid-19 information and so it iscrucial for government to support the media especially in this covid-19 era.
She called on the government to recognize the media as part of frontline workers in the fight against covid-19 where media houses are struggling to make revenues.
