Atik Mohammed rubbishes IMANI’s presser on EC

Convener for Mass Action Movement, Atik Mohammed, says the press conference organized by policy think tank, IMANI Africa is an attempt to buttress reports that IMANI is peeved that a particular vendor did not win the bid to carry out the EC’s compilation of a new voters register.
According to Atik Mohammed, IMANI’s press conference has not nothing to do with the compilation of the voter register itself.
The Electoral Commission’s (EC) decision to compile a new voters’ register and purchase a new biometric voter management system ahead of the 2020 December elections has generated heated debate in the country.
There’s been keen resistance from individuals and groups over the compilation of the new voter register.
Policy think-tank IMANI Africa, has been against the decision to compile a  new voters register right from day.
IMANI Africa in a recent Press Conference chaired by the Vice-President (in Charge of Research) at IMANI Africa, Bright Simons, presented what they described as ‘fresh evidence on the EC’s lies’ about the current state of the EC’s biometric system.
According to IMANI Ghana, the evidence gathered establishes the fact that the decision by the EC to purchase a biometric machine and compile a new voters register is to engage in a corruption related procurement job.
But speaking to Ekourba Gyasi on Atinka AM Drive, Convener for Mass Action movement, Atik Mohammed stated that there is no consistency or coherence in the argument of IMANI Ghana.
“Mass Action movement has no qualms with diverse opinions on the EC’s decision, what we find worrying is when people start to attack state institutions needlessly and without any cause.  I strongly feel the press conference yesterday has got nothing to do with the EC’s compilation of a New Voter Register because their argument keeps changing; there is no consistency in their line of arguments,” he added.
