Avoid “junkie” rubbish collectors- public cautioned

Mr Frank Agyapong

A Unit Committee Member of the Ayawaso Central Municipal Assembly, Mr Frank Agyapong has urged the public not to give their refuse (rubbish) to ‘junkies’ to dispose it for them moving forward.

He observed that some drug addicts roam from house to house and shops in the city to collect refuse, take monies from them and dispose them on the streets, especially Kwame Nkrumah Circle.

According to him, when they pick the rubbish, they park them under bridges and or over pass, bus stops and other hidden corners.

Speaking on Atinka TV’s morning show, Ghana Nie with Co-Host, Abena Dufie Asare Adjepong, Mr Frank Agyapong said those who give their refuse to these junkies will face the law when the junkies are caught in the act.

“For those who give their rubbish to the junkies, we want to let you know that they do not dispose it at authorized places,” he said.

He also observed that some ‘trotro’ drivers and ‘loading boys’ sweep the refuse in their vehicles at the various stations without disposing them properly.

Mr Frank Agyapong said he had to force a trotro driver and a loading boy to sweep a whole stretch at Circle when they were caught sweeping out rubbish at the station.

He urged those who sell by the roadside to sweep after selling, gather the rubbish and keep them in their dustbin for easy disposal.

“They should not dispose it at unauthorized places, because we have cautioned them that the sanitation court is not joking. We are warning them so that when we get hold of them they will not say they did not know. We are urging all the station masters to advise their people that when they close, they should put their refuse in bins for easy disposal,” he added.
