Boxer suspended for six months for punching Kotoko fan

The Ghana Boxing Authority(GBA) has imposed a six -month suspension on the professional boxing license of Ghanaian boxer, Patrick Allotey as the appropriate sanction for beating up a football fan during a game between Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The suspension takes effect from today, February 6, 2020 till six months from now when the boxer will be free to carry on his duties as a boxer.

It is unclear what caused the brawl but a video that circulated on social media after the match indicated that the two were in an altercation before matters quickly escalated into blows.

It was also noticed in the video that after a bit of tussle between the two men, Allotey, the WBO Africa Super welterweight champion grabbed the spectator by his shirt and delivered three jabs to his face, leaving a deep cut on the eye of the spectator.

A statement from the GBA, signed by its President, Peter Zwennes,  said,”Following the hearing the GBA found you liable on your own plea and has imposed a six(6) months suspension of your professional boxing license as the appropriate sanction. The suspension takes effect from today the 6th day of February 2020.”
