Build on successes to achieve greater heights– Akufo Addo to farmers

The President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has urged farmers to build on successes and move on to achieve greater heights in the years ahead.

This statement by the President is in line with the annual Farmers’ Day celebration being held across the nation.

The 2020 National Farmers Day which is being held in Techiman Bono Region is under the theme “Ensuring Agri-business Development under Covid-19 – Opportunities and Challenges.

The choice of the theme, which has contemporary significance given the ravaging effect of the virus on socio-economic activities globally, highlights the new orientation for all actors along the agricultural value chain.

The event, which is traditionally held every first Friday of December is being held a month earlier because of the upcoming polls on December 7.

The president, in a statement, said the 2020 farmers day has taken on even more significance, in view of the ravages caused by the novel coronavirus pandemic, which has disrupted all aspects of national life.

“ As a result of the resilient nature of Ghanaian agriculture, buoyed on by the fact that the sector has received strong support from government over the last three years and ten months, we, in Ghana, faced no shortages in food supply since the outbreak of the virus on our shores in March and our country has since been able to stand on its own two feet, in spite of the obviously difficult times. I express the appreciation of a grateful nation to farmers and fisherfolk across the country for achieving this historic feat”, the President added.
