The Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East Constituency, Phyllis Naa Koryoo Okunor, has urged residents of Kasoa to uphold the rule of law and remain committed to national development.
She made the call while addressing participants at the 69th Independence Day celebration parade held at Kasoa Ofaakor.
According to the MP, the sacrifices and struggles of Ghana’s past should inspire citizens to contribute actively toward building a prosperous nation. She also encouraged residents and commuters to support the development agenda of John Dramani Mahama, noting that collective efforts are necessary for national progress.
She stressed that the “scars of yesterday should embolden citizens to do more for Mother Ghana.”
MCE Calls for Patriotism and Hard Work
The Municipal Chief Executive for Awutu Senya East Municipality, Seth Serwornu Banini, also urged residents to embrace patriotism and hard work.
He encouraged citizens to focus not only on what the country can offer them but also on what they can contribute to national development. He called for a revival of community-focused initiatives such as communal labour, tree planting, school gardening, and the protection of forests and water bodies.
Traditional Leaders Warn Against Student Indiscipline
Meanwhile, traditional authorities in Kasoa, led by Nii Joe Tetteh, expressed concern about recent violence during inter-school competitions within the Central Region.
The chiefs cautioned students against indiscipline and urged them to focus on their education.
They also raised concerns about reports that some students use illicit drugs, which contribute to misconduct in schools. The traditional leaders therefore called on school authorities to take firm action against such behaviour and instill discipline among students.
The Independence Day event brought together local authorities, traditional leaders, students and residents to reflect on Ghana’s journey since independence and reaffirm their commitment to national unity and development.
