Christian Council commends Akufo-Addo on public gathering ban extension

Presiding Bishop for the Methodist Church Ghana and Chairman for Christian Council Ghana, Rev. Paul Kwabena Boafo, has commended the President of the Republic of Ghana Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on the decision to extend the ban on social gathering till end of May.
This comment comes after Heads of Christian Ecumenical Bodies in Ghana expressed their readiness to resume Church activities.
The heads came up with a proposal spelling out modalities under which they can safely perform their programmes without putting the lives of congregants at risk.
The proposal was after a meeting between President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and leaders of the Christian faith at the Jubilee House on April 21, 2020.
Speaking to Ekourba Gyasi on Atinka FM’s AM Drive, Chairman for Christian Council Ghana, Rev. Paul Kwabena Boafo, said the council is aware that church will not be the same after Covid-19 hence the decision to take measures to mitigate the spread after the ban on social gathering is lifted.
According to him, the proposal, which spells out modalities under which the church can engage in activities without exposing the congregation to coronavirus pandemic, will aid the church should government lift the ban on social gathering in the future.
“We accept the President’s decision to extend the ban on public gathering until the end of May. There is no cure yet for Covid-19 neither has a vaccine been produced. It is obvious that the church will not be the same after Covid, so the proposal by the Christian Ecumenical Bodies is to curtail the spread of the virus after the ban on social gathering is lifted,” he said.
Commenting on the impact of Covid-19 on the finances of Methodist Church of Ghana, Presiding Bishop for the Methodist Church Ghana and Chairman for Christian Council Ghana, Rev. Paul Kwabena Boafo, said the Methodist Church is still up and running due to the “good stewardship” of the resources of the Church.
