Collapsed Church: Death toll hits 10 as hope for survivors fades (video)

10 persons have now been confirmed dead following the collapse of a church building at Akyem Batabi on Tuesday according to our correspondent on the ground, Nana Adwoa.

She reports that hope for survivors were fading even though the rescue mission has been intensified .

The uncompleted church building collapsed while service was ongoing, trapping scores of worshipers numbering over 60.

The Minister for Eastern Region, Mr Eric Kwakye Darfour, on Wednesday morning revealed that 6 persons had died.

Speaking with Ekourba Gyasi on Atinka AM Drive on Wednesday, the minister said five bodies were retrieved this morning, bringing the death toll to 6 as one death was recorded yesterday.

He revealed that two survivors are currently receiving treatment at the hospital.

Mr Darfour indicated that the rescue team on the ground has been beefed up to speed up the rescue process.

Further reports on the ground indicate that cry of trapped victims could be heard under the rubble.
