Come out and register for the Ghana Card- NIA to public

The Director of Corporate Affairs at the National Identification Authority (NIA), Mr Francis Palmadeti has called on Ghanaians to participate in the ongoing nationwide registration.
Speaking at a day’s workshop organised by the NIA for ISD, NCCE and the police in Cape Coast, he indicated that Ghana can only consider the Ecowas Card (Ghana card) as a national identity card when it has registered about 80% of the population.
According to him, complaints by some individuals that the card is inapplicable at various business centres compared to ID’s such as the Health Insurance Card, is because it covers majority of the populace unlike the Ghana Card.
He said, the target of the NIA is to capture about 80% of the population in it’s nationwide registration.
He however said, submissions that registration centres should be opened at various centres across the country for Ghanaians to willingly register will take the authority over decade without reaching the required percentage.
He said, it is per this backdrop that the authority embarked on the nationwide registration.
The Director of Legal Affairs, Ms Theresa Essoun indicated that current mass registration is for only Ghanaians and cover Ghanaians abroad later.
She however noted that those outside Ghana would have to pay for the Ghana Card when they move outside Ghana to register them.
