Coronavirus: Gov't bans conferences, seminars

The Public Services commission has directed a ban on non-critical conferences, seminars, workshops, face-to-face gatherings over corona virus outbreak in Ghana.

Ghana was thrown into a state of panic as two persons, a Norwegian and  a Ghanaian based in Turkey, tested positive for  coronavirus  on Thursday.

A confirmation statement signed by Minister of Health, Kwaku Agyemang-Manu, “laboratory results of the two confirmed cases were received at the same time from the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research.”

Some health officials say Ghana’s case was not surprising as all neighboring countries reported confirmed cases.

Coronavirus has claimed more than 4947 lives since the outbreak.

A statement signed by the Chairperson for the Public Services Commission, Janet Ampadu Fofie, noted that the commission has further directed the use if alternative information communication technology approach such as video and telephone conferencing to hold meetings.

“The commission has further directed the provision of basic preventive items and measures such as hand sanitizers alcohol, access to soap and running water, paper towels and proper waste disposal items,” the statement said.
