Covid-19 App underutilized – Ursula

Minister-Designate for Communications and digitalization, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, says the COVID-19 app already exists and that it is about time Ghanaians utilized the app.

In 2020, the Ministry of communication launched the Covid-19 mobile Application.

A group of Technology experts on Monday, April 13, 2020 launched a new mobile App to aid in the fight against the global pandemic, Coronavirus.

At the launch, experts trained people to find their way around the App and give an insight of who can use the App.

The App according to the experts is to help trace any one who has come into contact with persons carrying the COVID -19 virus.

The new App was made available on both Android and IOS devices from after its launch.

Speaking to the Appointments Committee on Monday 15th February 2021, Minister-Designate for Communications and digitalization, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, said although the app is available for usage, the ministry realized that it is under utilized.

“The COVID-19 app already exists and it about time we utilized it. If given the nod, I will work with the GHS, to ensure it is widely used. We can add look at whether its download should be optional or mandatory”, Minister-Designate for Communications and digitalization Ursula Owusu-Ekuful told the Appointments Committee.
