Communications Officer for the Event Vendors Association Of Ghana, Richard Abbey, has expressed the association’s readiness to work together with the Accra Municipal Assemblies and the Ghana Tourism Authority to ensure Covid-19 safety protocols are strictly adhered to at events.
This statement by the association comes after the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, announced fresh restrictions last Sunday to fight the upsurge in Covid-19.
Addressing Ghanaians in the 23rd Virtual Covid-19 update, Akufo-Addo announced a ban on funerals, weddings, concerts, theatrical performances, and parties until further notice.
He added that beaches, night clubs, cinemas, and pubs remain closed.
Ghana’s borders by land and sea also remain closed.
“Restaurants should provide take-away services, and should, as much as possible, avoid seated services. I urge you, my fellow Ghanaians, to continue to pay attention to your health, improve your fitness levels, and eat our local foods that boost your immunity,” the President said.
Making his submissions as a panel member on Atinka TV’s maiden Stakeholders Breakfast Dialogue moderated by Ekourba Gyasi, Communications Officer for Event Vendors Association Of Ghana, Richard Abbey said the association has over 600 members nationwide and works with people from all sectors.
He stated that the association works with carpenters, welders, designers, interior decorators and that the ban affects a large group of people.
“ We were really managing the 100 people at events and we took steps in curbing the spread. We even came up with the idea of reducing the number of people who sit at tables at our events. We also introduced digital menus where people can choose the food they will take at the event,’ he explained.
He called on people to be lenient with event organizers and not demand their monies from them looking at the ban on social gatherings.
