The Ghana Medical Association has debunked rumours that hydrogen peroxide can prevent and treat Covid-19.
It identified that such publications has brought about panic buying and the shortages of the product on the market.
In a statement, the GMA noted that even before the Covid-19 pandemic, hydrogen peroxide was being used as disinfectant and antiseptic for minor cuts, adding that in Ghana, it has been approved by the FDA to be used as mouth wash, deodorant gargle amongst others for decades.
It stated that although some researchers in Ghana and abroad have stated that the product can prevent and treat Covid-19, there has not been sufficient proof to that.
Until then, the GMA has called on all to treat it as an ordinary medicinal product and desist from abusing it.
It has also urged the public to continue to adhere to the safety protocols in order to protect themselves from the virus.
