Covid-19: Public officials should disclose status to fight stigma- Dr. Titus Beyuo

The Deputy General Secretary Ghana Medical Association (GMA), Dr. Titus Beyuo, has advised public officials to help fight covid-19 stigma by disclosing their status without waiting to be named.
This statement is in line with calls by some persons to name the aide of the President who tested positive to the virus.
Doctors of the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Akufo- Addo, advised that he self-isolates for 14 days after one of his aides tested positive for Covid 19.
A statement released and signed by the Minister for Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, said the President as on Saturday July 4th 2020 had tested negative to the Coronavirus.
Speaking on Atinka FM’s AM Drive, Dr. Titus Beyuo, asked these public officials not to wait to be named before coming to confirm or deny.
Dr. Titus Beyuo commended some public officials who admitted and publicly announced that they had contracted the covid-19, adding that it’s the way to go.
The Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Dr Lydia Dsane-Selby, tested positive for the Coronavirus disease (Covid-19).
Dr Dsane-Selby said she tested positive for the disease on Sunday, June 14, 2020 after experiencing tiredness, body pains and headaches.
“I have called for Public officials to help us fight stigmatization by coming out publicly. They don’t need to wait to be named. I would wish that every public official that test positive will come out. I commend the likes of the CEO of NHIA Dr Lydia Dsane-Selby who came out straight to tell everybody that she had tested positive”, he said.
Justifying his statement, Dr. Titus Beyuo, said some Ghanaians still do not believe that the virus is in Ghana and that public officials declaring their status will send a signal to these doubting Thomases.
