Covid-19: Self Isolating after testing negative to virus apt- Doctor

A Private Medical Practitioner, Dr. Derrick Owusu, has defended the decision of the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, to self-Isolate after his aid tested positive to the Coronavirus.
This statement comes after Doctors of the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Akufo- Addo, advised that he self-isolates for 14 days after one of his aides tested positive for Covid 19.
A statement released and signed by the Minister for Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, said the President as on Saturday July 4th 2020 had tested negative to the Coronavirus.
It added that the President came to this conclusion out of the abundance of caution.
There has been an uproar on social media after the release of this statement with others arguing that the President does not need to self-isolate if he had already tested negative.
Speaking in an interview on Atinka FM’s AM Drive, Medical Practitioner, Derrick Owusu, says the decision to self-Isolate after testing negative is a good one  since testing negative does not mean one is immune to the virus.
According to him, there are patients who have tested negative initially but had tested positive after some days.
“If one tests negative to covid-19, it does not end there and it does not mean that the person cannot contract the virus. A person can test negative especially in the first test and test positive in the second test. So even if you test negative for covid-19 it is highly recommended that you self-isolate to prevent been infected. It’s not wrong, it just means you are been extra cautious”, he explained.
Commenting on the President’s decision to self-isolate for 14 days after one of his aides tested positive for Covid 19, Dr. Derrick Owusu said decision was based on recommendations from the presidents medical team who are equally experts hence a step in the right direction.
