Member of Parliament for South Dayi, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, says he sees nothing wrong with the infamous Do or Die comment by former President John Mahama.
His comment comes after Mr Mahama in an interview with Techiman-based Akina FM’s on Tuesday, September 7, 2021, as part of his thank-you tour indicated that the 2024 election was going to be a “do-or-die” affair at the polling stations.
He said that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) had learnt lessons from the 2020 general elections.
Mr. Mahama said, the current president has made elections a “life and death” matter using members of vigilante groups “Delta Force and Invisible Force enlisted in the various security agencies to intimidate voters.
He has been criticized by a section of the public who want him to apologize but Mr Mahama in another interview on Moonlite FM in Sunyani justified his comments saying they were harmless and “those who don’t understand English should stop the school interpretation”.

He insisted that “there was fraud in [the 2020] elections. . .that is why I said we learned lesson from it”.
Adding his voice to the conversation, Member of Parliament for South Dayi, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor in an interview on Atinka FM’s AM Drive with sit-in host, Nana Owoahene Acheampong said President Mahama meant no harm.
He said, the “do or die” comment as already explained by former President Mahama is as an Idiomatic expression which means “one’s desire to be successful”.
Dafeamekpor said, the NDC will look into the comment and revert back to the public with their side of the story.

Deputy General Secretary, New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Obiri Boahen says the party will face the Former President and the 2020 Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr John Dramani Mahama and the entire party if they go by their “Do or Die” threat during the 2024 elections.
Mr John Dramani Mahama declared that the 2024 elections will be a ‘Do or Die’ affair at the poling stations.
He also stated that the party will go all out to ensure victory come 2024.
The 2020 Flagbearer of the NDC made the comments at Techiman in the Bono East Region on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 during a self promotional tour across the country.
He said the NDC had learnt their lessons from the 2020 elections, hence the ‘Do or Die’ comments.
“Elections have become life and death in this country. The use of the Delta Force and Invincible Forces by the NPP in the 2020 elections is a wake-up call for us to adequately prepare for 2024. We must not fail the party in 2024. We must do all we can to win. 2024 will be a do-or-die affair” he said.
Speaking on Atinka TV’s morning show, Ghana Nie with Ekourba Gyasi Simpremu, Nana Obiri Boahen said the NPP is not scared of the NDC and its Flagbearer, therefore will retaliate with violence if the NDC perpetuates violence.
“The man was being bold enough to say “do or die”, and I am also saying I will also advise myself.” he said.
He said the NDC is known for intimidating people with threats, adding ,”You cannot use three intimidating words to scare us, we are not women!.”
