Former Member of Parliament for Dormaa East, Hon. Paul A. Twum-Barimah, has added his voice to the growing public discourse on the government’s standoff with South African broadcasting giant Multichoice, cautioning that the government’s handling of the situation could hurt its credibility.
In a Facebook post, Paul A. Twum-Barimah criticized the approach taken by Communications Minister Sam George, describing it as lacking in “diplomacy, tact, and mutual respect.”
“DSTV denies claims by the communication minister on price reduction. This doesn’t look good for the Minister and the government at large,” – Twum-Barimah posted. “Engagements such as this require diplomacy, tact, and mutual respect—not highhandedness.”
Paul A. Twum-Barimah’s comments follow MultiChoice’s response to a 14-day ultimatum issued by Minister George, demanding a reduction in DSTV subscription prices.
The Minister addressed the media yesterday claiming DSTV has agreed to reduce prices, but, MultiChoice in a release debunked the claim.
While the company initially expressed openness to dialogue, it later clarified that it had not agreed to the government’s deadline or specific terms, sparking confusion and backlash.

Twum-Barimah’s remarks underscore a growing concern that the government’s confrontational tone may be undermining its own standing and damaging Ghana’s image as a reliable destination for foreign investment.
