The Spokesperson for the Mobile Money Agents Association of Ghana (MMAAG), Mr Charles Addo, says the Association does not care about the 0.25% cut by the Telcos on the controversial E-Levy.

The Finance Minister, Mr Ken Ofori Atta stated that government has engaged the Telcos on the controversial E-Levy and the Telcos agreed to cut down their percentage on transactions by 0.25%.

Despite the 0.25% cut by the Telcos, he said 1.75% remains the same, adding that a new Bill will be heading to Parliament when it resumes.

The Finance Minister was addressing the Press on Wednesday, January 19, 2022 after consultations with the Minority, Corporate Society Organisations and a number of institutions.

Speaking on Atinka TV‘s morning show, Ghana Nie, with Ekourba Gyasi Simpremu, Mr Charles Addo said, “If the Telcos have agreed to cut down 0.25%, how does it concern us? When we invest our monies and you cut 0.25% off, it is the customers who are going to benefit and not us.”

According to him, the Finance Minister should have done a broader consultation with them before going to engage the Telcos, saying the reduction will not benefit the agents in anyway.

Meanwhile, he maintained that the Momo Agents do not want the E-Levy passed because it will bring a lot of challenges to them and the customers.
