Former Member of Parliament for Upper Denkyira West, Benjamin Kofi Ayeh says the introduction of the Electronic Levy will help solve Ghana’s developmental issues.

According to him, the government led by President Akufo-Addo is determined to implement more policies which would create jobs for the youth and also embark on developmental reforms such as building of schools, hospitals, factories among others to reduce hardship in the Country.

On Wednesday, November 17, 2021, Mr Ken Ofori-Atta, Minister of Finance, on behalf of the government, presented the 2022 budget, indicating a 1.75 per cent charge on all electronic transactions.

The E-levy charges will affect all online transactions such as mobile money payments, bank transfers, merchants and inward remittance across the country.

Following the 2022 budget presentation by the Finance Minister, Mr Ken Ofori-Atta, the announcement of the E-levy has been the topic of discussion as some citizens express dissatisfaction whiles there have been arguments between specialists concerning it.

But speaking to Kaakiyre Ofori Ayim, host of Atinka FM’s AM Drive during a discussion segment, Mr. Benjamin Ayeh described the position of the Minority Caucus in Parliament as unfair adding that the National Democratic Congress always opposes any good policies which is introduced by NPP.

He indicated, for the government to be able to execute its policies which will improve the lives of Ghanaians, the E-Levy must be accepted and it will surely be a game-changer in achieving Ghana’s developmental goals.

“Let’s take the free SHS policy the NPP promised to introduce when voted into power, these same NDC people went around advocating that it was impossible for Ghana to have a free SHS policy but we{NPP} were able to implement it and today many Ghanaians are benefiting from it”

“When the controversial E-Levy is passed, I am optimistic that, it would be used for the purpose of which it’s being collected. We will construct schools, roads, hospitals, create more jobs by setting up more factories which will employ the youth of this country”, he told Ofori.

Meanwhile, the E-Commerce Association of Ghana says the government’s efforts to digitize the economy would be a waste if the e-levy policy takes effect in 2022.
