Educate taskforce on unauthorised parking before arrest – Victim to Gov’t

A victim of the ongoing clampdown of cars that park at unauthorised places, David Lartey has urged the Transport Ministry, the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) and other Assemblies to educate their taskforce well before they go out to clampdown vehicles.

His advice comes after his vehicle was clamped down when he parked at Madina to buy food.

Earlier this year, the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) appealed to vehicle owners to refrain from parking at unauthorised places, urging them to make use of designated car parks provided within the city to avoid their cars being clamped and towed.

Although the directive is not new, in March this year, the AMA and all the Assemblies started re-enforcing the Unautaurised Car Parking and Parking Regulation to ensure that vehicles are not in the ways of others.

Some of the drivers have also complained about how the taskforce in charge of the exercise treat them.

Speaking on Atinka TV‘s morning show, Ghana Nie with Ekourba Gyasi Simpremu, David Lartey urged the government to ensure that the public is educated well on the exercise before it is carried out.

He advised government to also install road signs to prevent people from doing wrong parking.

“I want the government, all Ghanaians and the Roads Minister to know that we will all support voluntarily to have this exercise done but those who are sent to the field to carry it out need some form of orientation and education. We have to sensitise the system,” he said.
