*ELEVATE WOMEN’S NETWORK VEHEMENTLY CONDEMNS INEXCUSABLE GRUESOME LYNCHING AND MURDER OF A 90 YEAR OLD WOMAN IN THE SAVANNAH REGION OF GHANA*
The rank and file of the Elevate Women’s Network unequivocally condemns the gruesome lynching and murder of a 90 year old woman who was accused of been a “witch” by a self styled seer at Kafaba in the Savannah region.
The people of Kafaba and the rest of the entire country woke up to a sad viral video on our social media parlance depicting an outrageous scene of an abolished widowhood rites in which a group of women pounced on an old 90 year woman lynching her to death under the guise of the 90 year old been a witch as claimed by a self styled woman seer also at the scene.
This act in all uncertain terms is barbaric, inhumane and foremost never should have occured or deserve a place in our social environment.
Witch camps continue to be abolished and considered as outmoded practices. Sadly, we find it worrying to have seen the main perpetrators of this heinous act to be women inflicting so much pain and agony on a fellow woman.
We call on the relevant state security agencies to activate investigations and charge the culprits to face the full rigours of the law. In addition, we caution the public to desist from idolizing fake and self styled pastors/prophets who deceive them in believing the worst of stories for their personal gratification.
We stand with and invite all women organisations to strongly condemn this insult to the dignity of women in Ghana and all around the world.
This 90 year old woman deserves better and should not have been made a public wet cloth.
