Speaking at the programme, Mr John Gartchie, Dean of the School of Business at the University of Cape Coast observed that business schools train students to be entrepreneurs but not all students can be entrepreneurs.
He advised that Business schools ensure that skills development and long term learning are promoted.
The Educationist again urged the Business Schools to help diversify career paths for students.
He was of the view that Business Schools must put marketing students and economic students together to learn and do projects together to have broader ideas or knowledge beyond their main area of studies.
“We need to be flexible when it comes to curriculum development to allow for cross-border knowledge and skills development. It should be normal for a finance student to take several courses from an agribusiness programme or an accounting student to take several classes in an information technology programme,” he stated.
Mr John Gartchie also stated that internships and industrial attachment must be integrated in the business curriculum.
He also called on GUTA, AGI, Banker Associations to press on their members to provide internship spaces to enhance the training of Business schools.
“AGI, Bankers Association GUTS should press on their members to provide internship spaces to enhance the training of Business schools,” he stated.
He added that,”Business schools should foster collaboration with software firms to make needed software available to students for training.”
Meanwhile, Mr John Gartchie also called on Business Schools to initiate and facilitate exchange programmes and internships for students in foreign countries so that they can also have the experiences their mates have in those countries.
