E\R: Police interdicted over death of bullion van driver

Constable Amidu Osman, the Officer who accidentally killed a bullion driver at Odumase Manya Kpongnor in the Eastern Region has been interdicted.

The Public Relations Officer for the Eastern Regional Police command, DSP Ebenezer Tetteh who confirmed the COP’s interdiction to the media said that the cop will remain in interdiction until probe into the occurrence is finalized.

The officer who was reported to have been guarding the bullion van from Akosombo to Koforidua allegedly shot the driver to death while trying to disperse an emotional crowd of mourners who had flooded and taken of over the road the bullion van was to use.

DSP Ebenezer Tetteh noted that, “The Policeman has been interdicted. And his interdiction is basically to allow the police conduct a thorough investigation into the whole matter and the circumstances surrounding the death of the bullion van driver”.

Speaking on the development, DSP Tetteh emphasized that appropriate and deserving disciplinary measures would be meted out to the officer if investigations declare him guilty. 

“He will be on interdiction and after we have concluded our investigation and there is the need for an administrative action to be taken against him that will be done”.

He however added that representatives from the police service will be present at the one week celebration of deceased driver.
