The Claim
A viral image shared by social media accounts, including a Facebook post by “Boutrous Andy Kwaku Yirenkyi,” claims to show former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia with a young woman. The post alleges that the lady is Bawumia’s daughter and uses the image to question the “standards associated with political leadership” and “discipline” within his family.
The Verdict: FAKE
Following a comprehensive forensic investigation, TMG Research and Investigative has determined that this image is fake and has been digitally fabricated using Artificial Intelligence (AI). There is no credible evidence that the woman in the photo is related to Dr. Bawumia. The image contains clear markers of AI generation, including a significant oversight regarding Dr. Bawumia’s personal habits.

Our Investigation and Findings
The Missing Ring Detail
A critical piece of evidence debunking this image is the placement of Dr. Bawumia’s wedding ring. In the viral photo, his hands are either obscured or shown without his signature wedding band.
- The Fact: As a matter of public record and consistent personal habit, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia always wears his wedding ring on his left hand.
- The Discrepancy: The AI-generated image fails to include this consistent detail, which is a hallmark of his public appearance. AI often struggles with rendering consistent jewelry and hand anatomy.
Forensic Visual Analysis
Our desk identified several “telltale” signs of AI manipulation:
- Anatomical Inconsistencies: The hands and fingers of both subjects appear blurred and unnaturally blended with the clothing, a common flaw in AI-generated imagery.
- Inconsistent Lighting and Textures: The background bokeh (blur) and the reflections on the foreground glassware do not align with the lighting on the subjects’ faces.
- Duplicate AI Templates: Similar AI-generated images using the same digital “template” of the woman in the purple dress have appeared in other contexts, confirming it is a synthesized character rather than a real person.
Source and Verification
- No Official Record: No such image exists in the official archives of the former Vice President’s family or the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
- Pattern of Disinformation: Dr. Bawumia has been a frequent target of AI-driven disinformation, including previously debunked fabricated screenshots and manipulated audio.
Contextual Timeline
As of February 10, 2026, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is the former Vice President of Ghana. He completed his term on January 7, 2025, and is currently focused on his political future within the NPP and as the flagbearer of the party.
The image is a complete fabrication designed to spark controversy and damage the reputation of the former Vice President. TMG Research and Investigative warns the public to be cautious of “accountability” claims that rely on unverified, visually suspicious media.
