First Lady commissions health centre renovated by Gold Fields Ghana

The First Lady, Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo has commissioned the rehabilitated Huni-Valley Health Centre in the Prestea Huni-Valley municipality of the western region.
The centre which serves the people in the municipality was renovated and refurbished with modern medical equipment by Gold Fields Ghana Limited through its foundation.
The Gold Fields Foundation focuses on five key areas which includes; health, education, water and sanitation, infrastructure and agriculture.
Since the establishment of the foundation in 2005, the company has invested over 66.5 million dollars in the infrastructural development and livelihood enhancement programme in its host communities.
The Health Centre which has now been upgraded to a 26-bed facility, is equipped with a child healthcare centre, and two consulting rooms for doctors initially had only six beds.
Speaking at the event, Mrs Akufo-Addo commended Gold Fields Ghana Limited for impacting the lives as well as contributing to the improvements in the health and maternal care of the people in its catchment area.
She said, considering the importance of the facility to the thousands of people living in the municipality, it is only appropriating for it to be upgraded and equipped with modern facilities to better serve the people, especially women and children.
The First Lady posited that it is important to note that corporate social responsibility, has evolved beyond giving charity.
Adding that it is also now about how organisations run their businesses with emphasis on sustainability.
She urged the company to continue to implement strategies to reduce the impact of mining activities on the host communities and also protect the environment which is a key component of corporate social responsibility.
Mrs Akufo-Addo expressed happiness associating herself with the work of Gold Fields Ghana Limited, this is because it is align with the vision of Rebecca Foundation which was established in 2017.
According to her, since 2017, her foundation has supported government’s efforts to improve healthcare for women and children, literacy among children, as well as economic empowerment for women.
She reiterated that the Rebecca Foundation has established strategic partnerships with the private sector, government agencies and development partners to help address those critical issues.
She therefore, expressed desire to collaborate with Gold Fields Ghana Limited to address key issues affecting quality healthcare delivery, education and economic empowerment for women in the host communities.
As a part of her efforts to enhance quality healthcare delivery in Ghana, the First Lady also donated some medications and an ambulance to be delivered later to the Huni-Valley Health Centre.
Gold Fields Ghana Limited aside the commissioning of the Huni-Valley Health Centre also commissioned three other projects namely, the rehabilitation of a 2.4 kilometer Nana Angu-UMaT road, Akoon Park, and the upgraded Abosso Community Library.
The First Lady Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo commended Gold Fields Ghana Limited for impacting the lives as well as contributing to the improvements in the health and maternal care of the people in its catchment area.
The Executive Vice President and Head of Gold Fields West Africa, Alfred Baku addressing the people at an event to commission the Huni-Valley Health Centre admonished the people to own the facility and ensure the generations yet unborn also benefit from it.
On her part, the member of parliament for Prestea Huni-Valley who is also the Minister for Tourism, Creative Arts and Culture, Barbara Oteng Gyasi also commended Gold Fields Ghana Limited and highlighted some ongoing and completed projects she has executed to enhance quality healthcare delivery in the area including other infrastructural development projects.
