The Initiative was launched with a target to plant at least 10 million tree seedlings on the 2023 Green Ghana Day scheduled to take place on the 9th June 2023.
In an interview with Atinka TV, Mr George Osei urged institutions, churches and individuals who wish to plant seedlings to go to any Forestry Commission’s district for free seedlings.
“The Government said we should give the seedlings for free without selling even one to anybody and we commend the Government for that. From black soil, watering and the people we have contracted to raise the seedlings are all free and the government says we should give all for free,” he said.
Unlike previous years, he noted that the Commission had to go to the people to provide them seedlings and encourage them to plant them.
However, he said currently, there is high patronage of the project, expressing joy over how people trip in the offices of the Forestry Commission to get their seedlings.
Mr George Osei further noted that through his post planting inspections, he can confidently confirm that most of the seedlings planted last two years have grown to their satisfaction.
According to him, 80 per cent of seedlings planted last year are doing very well, just like those planted in 2021.
Meanwhile, he said his outfit was ready for this year’s exercise, urging all to take part in the exercise.
