The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Linda Akweley Ocloo, has announced the successful repair of 126 streetlights across the region, marking a key milestone in her first 50 days in office.
This initiative is part of her commitment to improving visibility and security within Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the capital.
Prior to assuming office, Linda Akweley Ocloo had pledged to ensure that at least 70% of streetlights in the region would be operational within 50 days, aligning with the government’s broader infrastructure improvement agenda.
Among the areas that have benefited from the streetlight restoration are the George Walker Bush Highway, ACP to Pokuase, Independence Avenue near Jubilee House, and the stretch from New Town Junction to Ashaiman.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, March 25, during an assessment tour, Hon. Ocloo reaffirmed her commitment to addressing the remaining streetlight malfunctions.
“Today, March 25, marks exactly my 50th day in office, and I am pleased to report that significant progress has been made. In total, 126 streetlights have been restored across highways, town roads, and community roads within the 29 MMDAs in the region,” – she stated.

She, however, acknowledged that lighting the Tema Motorway and the Accra-Tema Beach Road remains a challenge due to ongoing construction works but assured that those areas would also be addressed in due time.

The minister emphasized that efforts to improve street lighting will continue, as part of a broader strategy to enhance road safety and security in the capital.
