Ga Manye’s funeral: All shops must be closed on Saturday- Traditional Council

The Ga Traditional Council has warned residents in the Capital to adhere to its directives ahead of the burial and final funeral rites of the late Ga Manye.

Businesses and offices are required to close on Saturday, 28th October 2023, to make way for the final funeral rites for the Late Ga Manye, Naa Dedei Omaedru III

Speaking on Atinka TV’s Midday News with Ebenezer Kewaw Madugu, a planning Committee Member of the Ga Manye’s funeral, Nii Kwardey Ntreh, urged all Ghanaians to adhere to the directives as a task force will be on grounds to monitor activities.

He said, applying force was not their priority.

Initially, the Council had instructed the closure of all offices and shops in the Central Business District of the Greater Accra Region for three days, from October 26th to October 29th, but later adjusted the directive.

“The initial plan was 3 days, but upon second thought, our leaders settled on one day. So, let’s all adhere to the directive. We’ve spoken to our task force and we urge the media to also speak to all persons in the City. It is a matter of customs and respect for our Queen Mother.  As done everywhere, this is the time for Ga,” Nii Kwardey Ntreh explained.

When asked if Kasoa falls under this directive, Nii Kwardey Ntreh said, “Kasoa used to be part of Accra, but political demarcation does not make it directly bound to this directive.”.

That is a long story. We don’t want to drag things because the focus is holding a peaceful and befitting burial for our Queen Mother,” Nii Kwardey said.

The final funeral rites will be held at the Ga Mantse’s palace in Accra tomorrow, 28th October, 2023.

It will be attended by the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Prominent Chiefs from all corners of the world, and the clergy.

The Thanksgiving service will be held on Sunday.
