The Chief of Dompim-Pepesa, Nana Ohyeawora Bien Nyowah Panyin IV, in Tarkwa, has exonerated the Member of Parliament for Tarkwa-Nsuaem, George Mireku Duker, over claims of his involvement in ‘galamsey’ activities.
This comes after a “self-styled” Chief of Dompim-Pepesa in the Tarkwa Municipality accused the Member of Parliament for Tarkwa-Nsuaem, George Mireku Duker, of engaging in illegal mining in Tarkwa.
He alleged that Mr. Duker, the MCE, Benjamin Kesse, together with the Western Regional Minister, were behind ‘galamsey’ activities in the area.
Reacting to the issues on Atinka FM’s AM Drive with host Kaakyire Ofori Ayim, the Chief of Dompim-Pepesa, Nana Ohyeawora Bien Nyowah Panyin IV, revealed that Mireku Duker does not own concessions in Tarkwa and that he does not invest in mining of any kind.
Nana Ohyeawora Bien Nyowah Panyin IV also noted that Mireku Duker has no knowledge of any mining firm engaging in illegal activity in the area.

According to Nana Ohyeawora Bien Nyowah Panyin IV, the man who made the accusation is a distant nephew of Mireku Duker who is aggrieved because Mireku Duker did not support his bid to become a chief.
The Council wishes to state on record that the said Nathaniel Dekyi is the chief architect of illegal mining in Dompim Pepesa by selling over 40 acres of his own family’s cocoa farm to illegal miners at Trabuom/Asoampa.
Nathaniel Dekyi, on record, led the NDC campaign in the 2020 election against Hon George Mireku Duker, claiming that the MP didn’t support him in his bid to become the Chief of the area.
“Himself and his accomplices on video were caught discussing strategies as to how these illegal miners should operate in Dompim Pepesa.”
“It is also part of his strategy to demoralise and thwart the effort of Mireku Duker, who has dedicated all his time and energy to fighting the galamsey menace,” Nana Ohyeawora Bien Nyowah Panyin IV told Kaakyire Ofori Ayim.
