"Gender based violence a dehumanizing form of oppression" – Plan Ghana CD

Mr. Solomon Tesfamarian, Country Director for Plan Ghana International, an organization that supports children, particularly the most marginalized to exercise their rights, has described gender based violence as the worst dehumanizing form of oppression.
Mr. Solomon Tesfamarian made the statement at the National Dialogue on sexual violence against girls and boys at La-palm in Accra Tuesday
According to him, this violence exist in every society and in almost every county in the world.
He, however, noted that the level of tolerance in the various societies for Gender based violence, such as sexual violence against girls and boys, is seen by the extent to which law enforcements are able to ignore the necessary steps they need to take to prevent and prosecute perpetrators of this crime.
The event, which was organized by Plan Ghana is in partnership with Youth Advocates Ghana.
The panel section of the programme educated participants on the role of the media, young people traditional leaders and other stakeholders in addressing gender based violence.
The panel which was moderated by Atinka Media Village’s acting Head of News and Current Affairs, Regina Asamoah had stakeholders from Ghana Journalist’s Association, Defense for Children, and Youth Advocates Ghana.
Plan International has been working in Ghana to support children, particularly the most marginalized, to exercise their rights for over 25 years.
Working in 637 communities, the majority of which are rural, our work has impacted the lives of 480,000 children.
In Ghana, children, especially girls, suffer from violence at school and in their communities.
In addition, there is a lack of quality education and many children drop out of school.
As a result, there is a need to address the root causes of these issues, this is what Plan Ghana International seeks to achieve.
