Ghana Airports Company MD sacked after McDan private jet fiasco

The Managing Director of the Ghana Airports Company Limited, Yaw Kwakwa has been sacked after the recent controversy surrounding the launch of McDan Private lounge .

A letter by the Minister for Transport Kwaku Ofori Asiamah said the President of the Republic of Ghana had directed that the appointment of Mr Yaw Kwakwa as the Managing Director for Ghana Airports Company Limited be terminated.

“In this regard, kindly take the necessary steps to give effect to the directive,” the letter added.

Observers hold the view that, the dismissal is in relation to the recent controversy that characterized the launch of McDan Private Jet lounge.

McDan Aviation announced the suspension of its private jet operations at the Terminal 1 of the Kotoka International Airport.

This was to enable the management of McDan Aviation hold talks with the Ghana Airport Company Limited (GACL), over contentions regarding operational procedures.

In a letter dated January 31, 2022, Managing Director of the Aviation firm, Daniel McKorley, said, the resolve to put the operations on hold with immediate effect has become “necessary to pave the way for us to thoroughly engage your outfit and all the key stakeholders on the way forward.”

“We are writing to officially inform you about our decision to suspend our operations at the Fixed Base Operator Terminal with immediate effect”, the letter added.

GACL in a letter also dated January 31, 2022, indefinitely barred McDan Aviation from operating its private jet services at the Terminal 1 of the Kotoka International Airport (KIA).

This comes after airport authorities said there had been operational breaches by McDan Aviation following the inauguration of its private jet services.
