Ghana’s former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has highlighted the country’s groundbreaking success in medical drone delivery, positioning it as a global leader in healthcare innovation.
Since its launch in 2019, Ghana’s Zipline drone medical delivery service has transported over half a million essential medical supplies to more than 2,700 health facilities across the nation.
Speaking at a forum organized by the Harvard Business School, Dr. Bawumia emphasized Ghana’s remarkable achievement in the use of drones for delivering essential medical supplies.
He stated that Ghana’s leadership in this field demonstrates the country’s potential to excel in critical areas of innovation.
Dr. Bawumia added that while the UK and US are just beginning to explore this technology, Ghana has already made significant strides.
Touching on electronic money transfers, Dr. Bawumia indicated that Ghana is the first country and among the few in the world to achieve the interoperability between bank accounts and mobile money wallet.
He said following the introduction of the interoperability system in Ghana, mobile money wallet has automatically become a bank account.
