A high-level Ghanaian delegation led by Foreign Affairs Minister, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, held a significant meeting with His Eminence Cardinal Peter Appiah Turkson following the inauguration mass of Pope Leo XIV.

Accompanied by Ghana’s incoming Ambassador to the Holy See, Madam Sati Ocran, the Minister conveyed President John Dramani Mahama’s best wishes to Cardinal Turkson.
The delegation praised the Cardinal’s distinguished service to the Catholic Church and the global community, particularly highlighting his role as Chancellor of the Pontifical Academies of Sciences.

In a post on Facebook, Hon. Ablakwa described the meeting as both spiritual and enlightening.
“We conferred with His Eminence Cardinal Peter Appiah Turkson… and celebrated his exploits as Catholic Prelate and Chancellor of the Pontifical Academies of Sciences,” – the post read.
He added, “Ghana remains immensely proud of Cardinal Turkson’s globally acclaimed accomplishments. I am deeply grateful for the fatherly and spiritual insights.”
Cardinal Turkson, one of the most prominent African figures in the Roman Catholic Church, continues to be a source of national pride for Ghana, widely respected for his contributions to global ethical discussions and interfaith dialogue.
The meeting underscored Ghana’s continued commitment to strengthening diplomatic and ecclesiastical relations with the Vatican, particularly under the new leadership of Pope Leo XIV.
