Ghanaians will still vote for NPP despite economic hardship- Researcher

2024

The Director of Research at the Presidency, Dr Isaac Owusu- Mensah says Ghanaians will still vote for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) despite the hardship in the country.

According to him, Ghanaians will compare the two major parties and weigh who will help Ghana better and vote for the NPP regardless of the hardship.

This, he said is because the people understand the sources of Ghana’s challenges and appreciate the fact that the NPP-Government has done better for them since it assumed office.

Dr Isaac Owusu- Mensah said this on Atinka TV‘s morning show, Ghana Nie with Ekourba Gyasi Simpremu while reacting to a research he did.

Prior to the 2016 election, Dr Owusu-Mensah, who was a lecturer at the Political Science Department of the University of Ghana, Legon, predicted that Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the NPP had a better chance of winning the December 7 election than Ex President, John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

In 2020, a research conducted by him again indicated that the NPP will win the election.

All these predictions came to pass.

After conducting a research into who wins the 2024 elections, the Researcher has again indicated the NPP-Government can break the eight with a slim margin.

Meanwhile, a London-based Economic Intelligence Unit (EIU), has predicted that public dissatisfaction with economic challenges, the slow pace of development and perceptions of corruption may thwart the chances of the NPP in the 2024 polls.

This is contradictory to the findings of Dr Owusu-Mensah’s research.

But in an interview on Atinka TV, Dr Isaac Owusu- Mensah said, “They will compare food inflation, taxes and all that but they will compare the two options and decide which one to go for and that is why we have the current findings.”
