Ghana’s eTransform Project Connects 951 Government Institutions to High-Speed Network

The Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation has made significant strides in enhancing connectivity across Ghana through the World Bank-financed eTransform project.

A statement by the ministry said, this initiative has revolutionised digital infrastructure, ensuring high-speed internet and modern communication tools for every corner of the country.

The eTransform Project, a cornerstone of the Digital Ghana Agenda, the statement indicated focuses on: enabling environment for digital Ghana (e-government, business, policy, regulatory, and institutional capacity building), support for digitisation and connectivity, launch and scale-up of priority digital services and applications in health and education sectors, and project management support (coordination, communication, procurement, financial management, and monitoring).

According to the Minister of Communications and Digitalisation, Mrs. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, underscored the project’s transformative potential, stating that “The eTransform Project is a game-changer for Ghana, driving economic growth, social inclusion, and digital economy.”

The project has extended backbone connectivity to 254 District Centers (from 69)

  • Provided last mile connectivity to over 2,000 MDAs across the country
  • Connected 951 government institutions with a minimum of 1Gig capacity on a 10-year basis

The statement said the eTransform project will continue to enhance government services through ICT integration, fostering digital inclusion and socio-economic development.

Other key initiatives by the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation, the statement said, included: National Broadband Infrastructure, Ghana Rural Telephony and Digital Inclusion Project, Digital Ghana Agenda, National Data Centre Project and ICT for Accelerated Development (ICT4AD) Policy.

The statement concluded that these projects and policies aim to harness technology for socio-economic development, improve public services, and enhance citizens’ quality of life.
