Highlife legend Amakye Dede has been honoured by the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) for his outstanding support to press freedom and media development in Ghana.

The recognition was part of the GJA’s World Press Freedom Day Celebration and Honours Night held in Accra on May 2, 2025.
Although Amakye Dede could not attend the event in person, the award was received on his behalf by Roman Fada, manager of Daddy Lumba and flagbearer of the Ghana Freedom Party and a broadcast Journalist with Tobinco Media Group and DL FM.
According to the GJA, Amakye Dede, had, in the early years of the annual GJA Media Awards, performed pro bono at the events, giving them immense entertainment value and drawing large audiences to the dance floor.
“Your love for the GJA has never been in doubt,” said GJA President Albert Kwabena Dwumfour in a citation.
“In recognition and appreciation of your tremendous support to the Association, the GJA honours you, Amakye Dede.”
The citation praised the veteran musician for lending his craft to strengthen the image and appeal of the media awards during its formative years.
The evening celebrated several champions of press freedom and media development, with diplomats, media stalwarts, and political figures in attendance.
