GJA Intensifies Call for Responsible Journalism Amid AI Surge

GJA on AI Surge

The Vice President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Rebecca Ekpe, has reiterated the Association’s commitment to promoting professional standards as Artificial Intelligence (AI) transforms the media landscape.

Speaking on the growing concerns about misinformation and ethical lapses in the digital era at an event by the University of Media, Arts and Communication (UniMAC) in Accra, Madam Ekpe, said the GJA consistently reminds journalists to be responsible in their work, particularly at a time when misinformation, disinformation and distorted content are spreading rapidly across social media.

Madam Ekpe referenced the GJA President, Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, who frequently emphasises the need for ethical and responsible reporting during press engagements.

According to her, while AI tools can enhance journalistic work, they also require caution and integrity. She urged journalists to be circumspect and mindful of the evolving digital environment.

The Vice President also called on media owners to invest in training and capacity-building to enable journalists to use AI tools effectively without compromising professional standards.

She stressed that safeguarding credibility and public trust must remain paramount as technology continues to reshape Ghana’s media ecosystem.
