The National PRO for Mobile Money Agents Association of Ghana (MMAAG), Mr Charles Addo says the government is not interested in the welfare of Momo Agents.

According to him, the Momo Agents wrote a letter to the Ministry of Communications, Ministry of Finance and the Minority in parliament for a meeting but only the Minority gave them a hearing.

Speaking on Atinka TV‘s morning show, Ghana Nie, with Ekourba Gyasi Simpremu, Mr Charles Addo said when they met the Minority, they presented a petition and also told them that if government does not do anything about it, they (Momo agents) will face challenges if the E-Levy is passed.

“For us, we do not support that the E-Levy,”he said.

Meanwhile, he said the Government should have done a broader consultation on the E-Levy before bringing it out, adding that doing consultation months after the budget was read was a failure on the part of government.

He again noted that since momo was introduced in 2009, the commission they get at the end of the month is 0.5% and till date, it has not been revised.

“To us as agents, we are already paying charges to the Telcos. When you go and withdraw money, the 1 percent that you pay is too much. Mobile Money is 12 years now. It came in 2009. The commission we get when we use our money to do transaction is 0.5% at the end of the month and for over 12 years, there has never been an increment, but always they revise charges; government is not interested in the welfare of we the agents,” he added.
